Over the past twenty-four hours alone, six more children have succumbed to symptoms linked to the viral infection. Medical facilities recorded 1,159 new presentations of measles-like symptoms alongside 72 freshly confirmed cases of the disease within the same daily reporting window.
According to the regular epidemiological update published by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total daily tally of affected children reached 1,231 in a single day. This steady acceleration compounds an already severe health crisis that has stretched paediatric wards and community healthcare centres to their limits since the outbreak’s escalation began.
Data released by health authorities indicates that the upward trajectory of infections and fatalities has been relentless since 15 March. Over this extended period, 880 children have died while displaying clinical symptoms characteristic of measles, while another 99 deaths have been officially attributed to laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus. Combined, the cumulative death toll stemming from both confirmed infections and related complications stands at 979 children.
The sheer volume of morbidity highlights the widespread nature of the transmission. Between 15 March and the latest reporting date, the total number of confirmed measles cases reached 19,384. Simultaneously, community surveillance has identified 159,150 children presenting with suspected measles symptoms across various districts.
Healthcare infrastructure has faced immense pressure managing the sheer influx of patients. DGHS statistics reveal that 139,519 children suffering from measles-related complications required formal hospital admission over the course of the outbreak. Out of these hospitalised youngsters, 134,458 have successfully recovered and been discharged following medical intervention, though the steady stream of fresh admissions underscores that the contagion is far from contained. Public health specialists continue to urge guardians to ensure routine immunisations are up to date to curb further transmission among vulnerable populations.
