In a landmark cultural moment for Bangla music enthusiasts across both Bangladesh and West Bengal, the acclaimed contemporary band Meghdol and the iconic Indian ensemble Chandrabindu are set to share the same stage for the first time. The much-anticipated joint performance will take place in Kolkata, marking a rare cross-border musical collaboration between two generations of influential Bengali music.
The announcement has generated considerable excitement among fans on both sides of the border. Meghdol’s vocalist Shibu Kumar Shil confirmed the development, describing the invitation as both an honour and an emotional milestone for the band.
“Chandrabindu has always been a source of inspiration for us,” Shil said. “When we first began our musical journey, we often performed their songs on stage. That admiration remains unchanged even today. We still occasionally perform their music. So, hearing this news filled all of us with joy, pride and deep emotion. It is truly a very special moment for us.”
According to organisers, the joint concert is expected to take place on 5 September in Kolkata. While the exact venue is yet to be finalised, confirmation has been made that both bands will perform at the same event, sharing the stage in a collaborative musical setting.
The event is being viewed as a celebration of Bengali rock and alternative music, bridging generations of listeners who have grown up with distinct but equally influential sounds.
Meghdol has emerged as one of the most distinctive voices in modern Bangla music, known for its poetic lyricism, experimental arrangements and atmospheric soundscapes. The band’s repertoire includes widely appreciated tracks such as “Ei Hawa,” “Nefertiti,” “Akash Meghe Dhaka,” “Nirbban,” “Na Bolo Phool,” “Tobu Shohure Jonaki,” “Pathure Debi,” and “Esho Amar Shohore.”
The group currently features a dynamic lineup of musicians:

| Rashid Sharif Shoaib | Vocals, composition, guitar |
| Amzad Hossain | Drums |

The band remains actively engaged in live performances, maintaining a strong presence in the contemporary music circuit.
On the other side of the collaboration stands Chandrabindu, a band that has played a defining role in shaping modern Bengali music since the 1990s. Known for their lyrical wit, storytelling style and distinctive sound, the group has left an enduring cultural imprint across generations.
Songs such as “Vinjadeshi Tara” and “Bondhu Tomay Ei Gaan Shonabo Bikelbela” remain deeply embedded in the collective memory of audiences who grew up during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Now approaching nearly 37 years in their musical journey, Chandrabindu continues to command a loyal fan base while retaining its nostalgic appeal among older listeners.
The upcoming Kolkata concert is being seen as more than just a musical performance—it represents a symbolic meeting of eras. Meghdol’s contemporary experimental style will intersect with Chandrabindu’s nostalgic storytelling tradition, offering audiences a rare blend of innovation and heritage.
For fans of Bengali music, the event promises not only a night of performance but also a celebration of continuity, influence and shared artistic identity across borders.
