Police have recovered the body of a seven-year-old boy tied inside a sack from a canal in Borhanuddin upazila, Bhola, two days after he went missing. The victim has been identified as Ismail, son of local residents Akbar and Ruma. Investigators have taken an 18-year-old youth into custody in connection with the incident.
The discovery was made at approximately 11:15 am on Tuesday near Muslim Para in Ward 5 of Borhanuddin municipality. The detained youth, identified as Rokon, aged 18, is the son of Nannu and resides in the same neighbourhood.
According to family members and local residents, Ismail vanished on Sunday morning at around 10:30 am whilst playing near his home. When he failed to return, his family searched the immediate area and surrounding properties but found no trace of him. The search came to a grim conclusion on Tuesday morning when local residents noticed a foul odour emanating from a floating sack in the canal. They alerted the authorities, who arrived shortly afterwards to retrieve the sack and discovered the young boy’s body inside.
Police officers subsequently seized the body and initiated formal legal proceedings. Ripon Kumar Saha, Inspector of Investigation at Borhanuddin Police Station, confirmed that the body is being sent to the Bhola Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the precise cause of death will be established once the post-mortem report is released. Investigations are actively ongoing, with officers questioning Rokon in police custody to ascertain his potential involvement. Police confirmed that further legal action will follow as soon as the victim’s family files a formal case.
