Mother’s Shock as Daughter Found Hanging Dead

An 11-year-old girl was found dead after allegedly hanging herself from a mango tree beside her home in Noakhali, authorities confirmed. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening in Dharmapur village under Dharmapur Union of Sadar Upazila in Noakhali.

The deceased, Jannat Begum, was the daughter of Md Belal Hossain and Jharna Begum, both of whom are employed. According to local residents, the couple had left for work earlier in the day, leaving their daughter alone at home. Their 14-year-old son was attending a Hifz madrasa at the time.

Upon returning home in the evening, Jharna Begum discovered that her daughter was missing. A frantic search ensued, and moments later she found Jannat hanging from a mango tree adjacent to their residence, with a jute rope tied around her neck. Her screams alerted neighbours, who rushed to the scene. The police were subsequently informed.

Officers from Sudharam Police Station recovered the body and took it into custody. On Monday morning, it was sent to the morgue of the Noakhali 250-Bed General Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Sub-Inspector Mozammel Hossain of Sudharam Police Station told Prothom Alo that no signs of injury or suspicious marks were found on the child’s body during the preparation of the inquest report. He added that the family was unable to provide any explanation for the death. The definitive cause will be confirmed once the autopsy report is received.

Police have registered an unnatural death case in connection with the incident, in accordance with legal procedures. Further steps will be taken depending on the findings of the forensic examination.
