Mymensingh BNP Worker Killed In Fatal Stabbing Incident

A fatal alteraction in Mymensingh has resulted in the death of a 28-year-old man named Rana Mia, who was reportedly stabbed by the son of a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader. The incident, which transpired at approximately 5:00 pm on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, also left five other individuals with various physical injuries. The confrontation took place at the Ganger Bari locality within Char Ishwardia Madhyapara village, situated in Ward 31 of Mymensingh City Corporation.

The deceased, Rana Mia, was the son of Shoraf Uddin and a resident of the same locality. He earned his living as an automated rickshaw driver, and his relatives have asserted that he was actively involved with the political activities of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Sequence Of Disputes Leading To The Attack

The casualties from the confrontation have been identified by authorities as Ashad, aged 36; Mofazzal, aged 35; Shahan, aged 45; Munsur Ali, aged 50; Shakil, aged 30; and Dini Mia, aged 35. According to law enforcement records, the primary accused individual, Mahin, is the son of Mofidul Islam Master, an executive committee member of the Mymensingh Metropolitan unit of Jamaat-e-Islami. Mahin reportedly fled the area immediately following the stabbing and remains at large.

According to a detailed account provided by Mahabul, a relative of the deceased, the underlying friction between the two families traces back to previous political campaigns. Mahabul stated that their family had actively campaigned for the BNP and cast their ballots for the “Sheaf of Paddy” (Dhaner Sheesh) electoral symbol during the national elections, which initiated a long-standing political rivalry with Mofidul Islam Master.

The immediate catalyst for the violence occurred on Monday evening following a local football match. Youths from Mofidul Islam Master’s household went to a retail shop located directly in front of Rana Mia’s residence to purchase beverages. During this interaction, individuals from the victim’s side allegedly taunted them, mocking the youths for consuming drinks associated with a specific municipal councillor candidate. The exchange escalated into verbal threats of physical violence before the youths departed. Later that Monday night, members of Mofidul Islam Master’s household reportedly launched an initial assault on the victim’s house, though Mofidul Islam Master subsequently intervened in person to arbitrate and resolve the dispute.

The Fatal Assault And Conflicting Statements

The temporary truce dissolved on Tuesday afternoon. Mahabul alleged that Mofidul Islam Master returned to their residence accompanied by a mobilised group of 50 to 60 individuals to launch a coordinated assault. During the ensuing melee, Mofidul’s son, Mahin, allegedly brandished a knife and struck Rana Mia directly in the side of his chest. Five other individuals sustained injuries while attempting to intervene or defend the property. Local residents rescued the casualties and transported them to the hospital, where the duty physician officially pronounced Rana Mia dead upon arrival.

The brother of the deceased, Tofazzal Hossain, strongly condemned the act, stating that his brother was stabbed in the chest by Mofidul Islam Master’s son without any justifiable provocation, whilst demanding the capital punishment of his brother’s killers.

Conversely, Mofidul Islam Master has rejected the allegations, denying any personal involvement or the presence of his son at the crime scene. He asserted to reporters:

“I was not present at the location when the incident occurred, nor was my son there. These allegations constitute a targeted propaganda campaign designed to malign our reputation.”

Police Investigation And Legal Proceedings

The Kotwali Model Police Station has assumed formal control over the criminal investigation. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the station, Muhammad Shibirul Islam, confirmed that law enforcement personnel successfully retrieved the body of the deceased. The corpse has been transferred to the morgue of the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for a mandatory post-mortem examination.

Officer-in-Charge Shibirul Islam stated that the situation in Ward 31 is currently being monitored to prevent secondary retributive violence between the political factions. He added that the official processing of legal complaints and statutory procedures is actively underway, and police units have initiated operations to track down and apprehend the fugitive suspect, Mahin.
