The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially granted pacer Nahid Rana permission to rejoin Peshawar Zalmi for the upcoming final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). This decision marks a shift in the board’s initial stance regarding the player’s workload management and preparation for international duties.
Nahid Rana had initially departed from the PSL mid-tournament to represent Bangladesh in a home One Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand. Following an exceptional performance where he secured the ‘Player of the Series’ accolade, Rana was omitted from the subsequent T20 International squad.
The BCB had previously indicated that Rana would remain in Bangladesh to prepare for the forthcoming Test series against Pakistan, scheduled for next month. Concerns regarding player fitness were heightened after fellow pacer Mustafizur Rahman was ruled out of the tournament due to injury. However, the board has now reconsidered, citing the developmental benefits of participating in a high-pressure championship match.
In an official statement, the BCB noted:
“The decision was made considering the importance of playing in the final of a global franchise tournament, which is viewed as a significant step for the player’s development.”
The board further confirmed that both the national team management and the medical unit have provided the necessary clearance for the fast bowler to travel.
The Chairman of Peshawar Zalmi, Javed Afridi, expressed his gratitude via a post on X (formerly Twitter). He specifically thanked the interim President of the BCB, Tamim Iqbal, for facilitating Rana’s return for the final. Peshawar Zalmi secured their place in the final after winning the first qualifier, and Rana is expected to be a pivotal component of their bowling attack in the trophy decider.
Rana’s debut season in overseas franchise cricket has been statistically impressive. Known for his raw pace, he has maintained a disciplined economy rate while providing crucial breakthroughs for his side.
