Navy Seizes Narcotics and Firearms in Teknaf Raid

The Bangladesh Navy has conducted a successful special operation in the Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar, resulting in the recovery of a substantial haul of narcotics and foreign-made firearms buried underground. The operation, which took place in the early hours of Monday, 4 May 2026, led to the seizure of Crystal Methamphetamine (Ice), Yaba tablets, and lethal weaponry.

Details of the Operation

Acting on precise intelligence reports, a specialised contingent of the Bangladesh Navy launched a raid in the Alikhali area under the Hnila Union of Teknaf. The focus of the search was a local brickfield, where suspects were believed to have concealed illicit goods. During a thorough search of the premises, naval personnel discovered items buried deep within the soil.

Upon excavation, the team recovered 5 kilograms of Crystal Methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘Ice’, alongside 100,000 pieces of Yaba tablets. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics is approximately 300 million BDT (30 Crore). In addition to the drugs, the Navy recovered two foreign-made pistols, two magazines, and four rounds of live ammunition.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

During the drive in the Alikhali area, the Navy apprehended an individual identified as Nurul Kabir. According to official records, Kabir is a high-interest suspect with multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest. He has been implicated in several prior cases involving the illegal possession of firearms and the distribution of narcotics.

Lieutenant Commander Shahriar of the Bangladesh Navy confirmed the details of the seizure and the arrest on Monday. He stated that the operation was part of a broader mandate to curb the influx of dangerous drugs and illegal weapons into the country.

The recovered items and the detainee have been formally handed over to the Teknaf Model Police Station for further processing. Authorities are currently preparing to file new charges against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act and the Arms Act.

Inventory of Seized Items

The following table provides a breakdown of the items recovered during the raid:

Item Description Quantity Estimated Value / Specification
Crystal Meth (Ice) 5 Kilograms Approx. 250 Million BDT
Yaba Tablets 100,000 Pieces Approx. 50 Million BDT
Foreign Pistols 2 Units Foreign-manufactured
Magazines 2 Units Compatible with seized pistols
Live Ammunition 4 Rounds 4 rounds of fresh bullets
Total Estimated Value 300 Million BDT (30 Crore)

Regional Context and Security

Teknaf, situated on the border between Bangladesh and Myanmar, remains a high-risk zone for the smuggling of synthetic drugs. The Naf River serves as a primary transit point for transnational cartels. The use of brickfields and remote agricultural land as temporary storage sites for contraband is a documented tactic used by smugglers to evade detection by standard patrols.

The Bangladesh Navy has reiterated its commitment to maintaining security in coastal and border regions. Lieutenant Commander Shahriar emphasised that such operations remain a priority to ensure public safety and to dismantle the financial networks of organised crime syndicates. Routine patrols and intelligence-led raids are expected to continue in the Cox’s Bazar district to suppress further criminal activity.
