A newlywed bride was allegedly abducted from her wedding microbus by a local political activist and a group of associates in Kishoreganj’s Hossainpur upazila, triggering widespread shock and swift administrative intervention.
The incident took place late on Sunday night within the Hajipur market area of Jinari union. According to local witnesses and police reports, the wedding procession was returning from Nayapara village in Sidhla union, where the marriage ceremony of Tamanna Aktar and Akhtar Mia from Rajabaria village in Mymensingh’s Nandail upazila had just concluded.
As the bridal vehicle approached the Hajipur market intersection, a group of twenty to twenty-five young men intercepted the microbus. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants, spearheaded by a local Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activist named Atiqur Rahman Miyad, proceeded to vandalise the vehicle before forcibly removing the bride. Tamanna Aktar was dragged from the microbus against her will, leaving the groom, family members, and wedding guests stranded and distressed.
In the wake of the abduction, details regarding a prior romantic relationship between the accused and the bride quickly surfaced within the local community. Residents reported that Miyad and Aktar shared a longstanding attachment that had failed to culminate in marriage due to parental disapproval and family resistance. Shortly after the chaotic episode unfolded, Miyad took to his personal Facebook account to celebrate the outcome, publishing a status update that read, “I have nothing more to ask for in life,” accompanied by smiling and heart emojis.
Law enforcement agencies and local political leadership reacted promptly to the breach of public order. Delwar Hossain Rajib, member secretary of the Hossainpur upazila branch of Chhatra Dal, acknowledged that the accused was associated with the organisation, though questions regarding internal accountability and conduct were immediately raised. Raiful Islam Nawsad, general secretary of the district Chhatra Dal unit, confirmed that party leaders had been apprised of the incident and noted that formal organisational disciplinary procedures were already underway.
Mohammed Rashedul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hossainpur Police Station, stated that preliminary investigations pointed towards a personal dispute fueled by past romantic involvement and familial opposition. Police teams were deployed to trace the whereabouts of the bride and ensure her safe recovery. Authorities confirmed that formal legal action would be initiated immediately upon the receipt of a written complaint from the affected family.
