Newlywed Found Dead in Husband’s Home

In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the local community, the body of 21-year-old newlywed Swapna Akter was discovered hanging in her husband’s residence just 24 days after her marriage. Her parents allege that Swapna was murdered, disputing initial claims of suicide.

The gruesome discovery was made on Saturday morning (14 March) at the husband’s home in Banshaghari village, Dangi Union, under Nagarkanda Upazila, by Nagarkanda Police. Swapna, the daughter of Hannan Molla, hailed from Thengamari village in Krishnapur Union, Sadarpur Upazila, Faridpur.

According to local sources and police reports, Swapna married 25-year-old Khayer Matubber, son of Shawkat Matubber from the same village, only 24 days ago. It is suspected that she may have taken her own life sometime during the early hours of Friday night (13 March). Police arrived at the scene on Saturday morning after receiving information and found her lifeless body suspended from a beam inside the house.

The scene was examined and a preliminary inquest report prepared by Assistant Superintendent of Police (Nagarkanda Circle) Mahamudul Hasan, Nagarkanda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rasul Samdani Azad, and Sub-Inspector (SI) Robiul Islam.

The OC of Nagarkanda Police, Rasul Samdani Azad, stated, “The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The report will clarify whether it was suicide or homicide.” Meanwhile, Swapna’s husband, Khayer Matubber, remains absconding, according to police sources.

Local residents reported that there were visible marks on various parts of Swapna’s body, but it remains unclear whether these were inflicted injuries. Confirmation will only come after the autopsy.

Speaking to reporters, Swapna’s mother, Halima Begum, expressed her anguish, saying, “My daughter has been murdered. I tried calling my son-in-law repeatedly last night, but he did not answer. This morning I was informed that my daughter had allegedly committed suicide. They have killed my daughter.”

Her father, Hannan Molla, added, “They are attempting to cover up the murder by claiming it was a suicide. I demand justice for my daughter.”

The incident has created a state of shock and concern in the local community. Authorities have assured that the case is being investigated thoroughly and that necessary legal action will follow.
