At least 9 people were killed and 29 injured in a massive explosion while testing a large quantity of seized explosives at the Naugam Police Station near Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, India. The incident occurred on Friday night.
According to NDTV, most of the victims were police personnel and forensic team members who were examining the explosives. Two officials from the Srinagar administration also died at the scene.
Police stated that the explosives had recently been recovered from Faridabad in Haryana and brought to the Naugam Police Station. The sudden and intense explosion occurred while they were being tested and neutralized.
Many of the injured are in critical condition. They were immediately taken to the Indian Army’s 92 Base Hospital and the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS).
Following the incident, senior police officials arrived at the Naugam Police Station area and initiated an investigation. The entire area has been cordoned off, and efforts are underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
