Legal adviser Asif Nazrul has stated that there is no known legal barrier to BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman returning to the country.
Speaking to journalists on Monday (1 December) at the Secretariat, he said that the Zia family would best understand when Tarique Rahman should return.
Asif Nazrul added, “To my knowledge, there is no legal obstruction to the acting chairman of BNP coming to Bangladesh. If any barrier exists, we will provide maximum support. We will ensure full cooperation regarding his security.”
The adviser said, “I believe he has the ability to decide the right time. I am confident he will return to the country at the appropriate time.”
He further mentioned, “Many ask why he hasn’t returned. I find such questions distasteful. This is a mother-son matter. Whether Begum Khaleda Zia has any instructions or Tarique Rahman personally has any thoughts, pre-judging this seems inappropriate to me.”
