From today, Tuesday, the cards can be recharged from anywhere using any online banking method, including bank credit cards, bKash, Nagad and Rocket.

At noon, the online recharge service for Rapid Pass and MRT Pass cards was inaugurated at Agargaon Metro Station in the capital. The event’s chief guest was Sheikh Moinuddin, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser (Road, Bridge and Railway Ministry). Additional Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division, Nikhil Kumar Das, attended as special guest. The event was chaired by Neelima Akhter, Executive Director of the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA).

Sheikh Moinuddin said that this initiative would be considered a significant advancement in the digital transformation of Bangladesh’s public transport. With the online recharge facility, users will be able to recharge their cards safely and swiftly from any place at any time.

Nikhil Kumar Das stated that digital technology plays a vital role in enhancing efficiency, ensuring good governance and improving passenger services in public transport. With the introduction of online recharge, passengers will benefit from a faster, safer and more transparent system. He added that efforts are ongoing to bring more public transport services onto digital platforms in the future.

Neelima Akhter noted that this long-awaited service would save passengers’ time and promote cashless payment systems. Digital technology would ensure a smart and hassle-free travel experience for commuters.

Once a Rapid Pass or MRT Pass card is tapped on an AVM, the online recharge will be completed. The number of machines will be increased in the future. The metro rail app will be launched next month to further simplify online recharges.

How to Recharge Online

For the first online recharge, registration must be completed via the website or app.

If the Rapid Pass card is not already registered, it must be registered first.

Any payment method may be used to recharge the card online.

After online recharge, the transaction will remain pending until the card is tapped on an AVM.

The balance must be confirmed by tapping the card on an AVM.

A confirmation SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number once the recharge is successful.

A minimum of 100 taka and a maximum of 5,000 taka can be recharged at a time.

Only one pending recharge is allowed at a time; a new recharge cannot be made until the previous one is completed.

If the card is blacklisted, refunded or invalid, recharge will not be possible.

Recharge history can be viewed through the app or web portal.

Users may cancel a recharge within 7 days before tapping the card on an AVM; a 5% service charge will apply.

Refunds may also be requested for pending transactions due to blacklisting; a 5% service charge will apply here as well.
