The successful operation unfolded at approximately 4:30 pm on Friday, 4 September, when troops from the 11 BGB Battalion deployed at the Adarshagram security checkpoint signaled a suspicious passenger vehicle to pull over for a routine inspection. Upon questioning the driver, officers noted nervous behaviour and proceeded with a thorough search of the vehicle. Inspections quickly revealed structural modifications to the rear fuel tank. Upon dismantling the CNG cylinder, border guards retrieved five tightly wrapped packages containing 50,070 Yaba pills hidden within the hollowed chamber.

Law enforcement officers arrested the driver at the scene, identifying him as 39-year-old Abul Kalam, son of Abul Kashem, residing in Boro Jamchhari village under the Kachhapia Union of Ramu upazila, Cox’s Bazar. The auto-rickshaw utilised for transporting the illicit narcotics was formally impounded as physical evidence.

BGB officials confirmed that formal legal proceedings under the Narcotics Control Act are currently underway. The seized synthetic drugs, the impounded vehicle, and the detained suspect are being handed over to Naikhongchhari Police Station to facilitate criminal charges and further investigation into regional trafficking links.

Cross-border smuggling along the south-eastern frontier remains a persistent security challenge due to the porous nature of the border terrain adjacent to Myanmar. Trafficking syndicates frequently devise sophisticated concealment methods to transport illegal methamphetamine tablets into urban centres, leveraging modified commercial transport.

Lieutenant Colonel Md Fayzul Kabir, Commanding Officer of the 11 BGB Battalion, emphasised that border security forces maintain rigorous vigilance along vulnerable transit corridors. He reaffirmed that BGB remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and illegal border networks to protect youth and maintain regional security.
