Officers from the District Detective Branch (DB) of Police apprehended a 42-year-old man and confiscated 400 grams of processed cannabis during an evening operation in the Mirapara neighbourhood of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila on Wednesday, 26 August 2026.
The tactical raid was carried out at roughly 8:20 pm as part of an expanding, district-wide anti-narcotics initiative commissioned directly by the Superintendent of Police. Designed to bolster public safety and suppress criminal activity across the district, the initiative relies heavily on intelligence-led operations. Following actionable leads regarding local drug distribution, a specialized DB contingent under the command of Sub-Inspector (SI) Yaqub Hossain moved into key locations within Mirapara. Officers cornered and detained the suspect, identified as Ismail Bepari, a local resident and son of Omar Mia. A physical search at the scene uncovered the illicit consignment of cannabis concealed on his person.
Police authorities confirmed that formal legal steps are being executed at the local police station. Investigating officers are preparing the necessary paperwork, evidence logs, and statutory documentation mandated by the Narcotics Control Act to ensure the case moves swiftly to court. The suspect remains in custody pending his initial court appearance.
