A serving police officer was found dead inside a hotel room in Chittagong’s Mirsarai upazila, while his injured wife and 10-month-old infant daughter were recovered covered in blood. The incident occurred on Monday, 10 August, inside Room 104 of Hotel Relax Zone, situated in the BORTAKIYA Bazar area.
The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Aminul Islam, son of Abul Hossain from the Kholiyachhara Union under Mirsarai upazila. ASI Islam was posted at the Rangamati Police Lines. His wife, 24-year-old Tahmina Akter, is the daughter of Md Ibrahim from the Dakshin Hajishwarai area in Durgapur Union.
According to hotel authorities, ASI Islam checked into the establishment at around 2:00 pm on Sunday, 9 August, posing as a businessman. He was accompanied by his wife and infant daughter. Hotel staff reported seeing Islam leave the room periodically throughout the afternoon and evening—most recently at 9:00 pm—to fetch food, but his wife and child remained inside the room throughout the day.
The tragedy unravelled on Monday morning at approximately 10:30 am when housekeeping staff knocked on the door to clean the premises. Receiving no response despite repeated attempts, the hotel manager, Md Sohan, stepped in to investigate. After persistent knocking and calls from management, Tahmina Akter opened the door in a severely injured and bloodied state.
Upon entering, hotel staff discovered ASI Islam hanging from the ceiling fan alongside the bed. Mirsarai Police Station was immediately notified. Responding officers secured the scene, recovered Islam’s body, and arranged emergency medical transport for Tahmina to the local upazila health complex. Their 10-month-old daughter, Fatiha, was found unharmed alongside her mother and remains in stable health.
Providing background on the couple’s relationship, Tahmina’s mother, Amena Begum, disclosed that the marriage took place in January 2025. She alleged that Islam had consistently neglected his financial responsibilities toward his wife. According to Amena Begum, Islam brought Tahmina to the area on Sunday morning under the pretext of obtaining their daughter’s birth certificate from the local union parishad office. Later that afternoon, Tahmina telephoned her mother to report that Islam had arranged rented accommodation for the family and planned to move in the following morning.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Mirsarai Circle) Nadim Haider Chowdhury confirmed the recovery of the police officer’s body and the rescue of his family. He stated that preliminary investigations suggest the incident stemmed from severe domestic disputes. Police have initiated formal legal procedures, and an investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy remains under way.
