Policeman Finds Son Among Road Accident Victims

A routine emergency response turned into an unimaginable personal tragedy for a police constable in Bangladesh after he discovered that the child whose body he had been sent to recover was his own son.

The heartbreaking incident occurred in Kishoreganj on Friday morning when a fourth-grade pupil was killed in a road accident while attempting to cross a busy road outside his school. The victim, 10-year-old Tuhin, was a student at Abdul Wahed Janata Government Primary School in the Gaital area of Kishoreganj town.

According to police and local residents, the accident took place at around 10:20 a.m. on the road directly in front of the school. Tuhin was crossing the road when he was struck by a truck. The impact proved fatal, and he died at the scene before medical assistance could arrive.

Following standard procedure, Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station dispatched officers to recover the body and secure the accident site. Among those responding was Constable Samsul, who was carrying out his official duties without knowing that the victim was his own son.

Only after reaching the scene and seeing the child’s lifeless body did he realise the devastating truth. Witnesses said the officer was left stunned before breaking down in tears as he recognised his son. Fellow police personnel and local residents gathered around to comfort him, while many onlookers were visibly shaken by the deeply emotional scene.

Tuhin was a fourth-grade student with his entire future ahead of him. His father, Constable Samsul, serves at Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station, while the family’s ancestral home is in the neighbouring district of Netrokona.

Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abul Kalam Bhuiyan of Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station described the incident as profoundly painful for everyone at the station. He said Constable Samsul had responded to the accident as part of his professional responsibilities and only discovered upon arrival that the deceased child was his own son.

The officer-in-charge added that Tuhin’s body had been sent to the morgue of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital for the necessary legal procedures.

Police have seized the truck involved in the fatal collision. The driver, however, fled the scene immediately after the accident and remains at large. Law enforcement authorities have launched efforts to identify and arrest the driver, while legal proceedings in connection with the incident are under way.

The tragedy has drawn widespread sympathy within the local community, highlighting both the devastating consequences of road accidents and the extraordinary emotional burden that emergency responders can unexpectedly face while carrying out their duties. For Constable Samsul, what began as another call to serve the public became the most painful moment of his life, underscoring the profound human cost that can lie behind routine police work.
