Bangladesh’s celebrated rock band Shironahin has announced an intensive concert schedule, set to perform four live shows across the country within just six days. The whirlwind tour comes ahead of the winter season, traditionally the busiest period for live music in Bangladesh, signalling a welcome revival for the domestic music scene.
Ziaur Rahman, the founder and leader of Shironahin, confirmed the band’s demanding schedule on Saturday, revealing a series of high-profile appearances spanning major academic institutions and corporate venues.
The tour kicks off on Sunday with a performance at the Kabi Nazrul Government College grounds in Dhaka, organised as part of a freshers’ reception hosted by the college’s student organization. Following their opening show in the capital, the five-member group will travel north to perform at the Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET) campus in Gazipur on 30th September. The group will then return to Dhaka for an exclusive concert at the Renaissance Hotel on 1st October, before concluding their tour on 2nd October with a major outdoor show at the Patuakhali Science and Technology University in the south of the country.
This rapid sequence of performances arrives at a critical juncture for the Bangladeshi live music industry. Recent months have been marked by widespread uncertainty, with numerous high-profile concerts facing last-minute cancellations, security concerns, or venue postponements. Against this tumultuous backdrop, Shironahin’s uninterrupted four-date run offers a much-needed boost to both industry stakeholders and concertgoers. Members of the band expressed optimism that resuming a consistent live schedule will help restore momentum to the music sector, fostering a renewed bond between artists and their audience after months of disruption.
Founded in the late 1990s, Shironahin remains one of the most influential alternative rock acts in Bangladesh, renowned for blending rock music with traditional classical instruments such as the sarod and flute. The band’s current lineup features Ziaur Rahman on bass guitar, Kazi Ahmad Shafin on drums and sarod, Sheikh Ishtiaque on lead vocals, Symon Chowdhury on keyboards, and Sudipto Sinha Dipu on guitars.
