Power Grid Bangladesh Forecasts 1,939 MW Load-Shedding Amid Peak Demand

Dhaka is braced for the highest concentration of power cuts this evening as national grid authorities project a total load-shedding deficit of 1,939 megawatts across the country during peak evening hours.

Data released by Power Grid Bangladesh PLC at noon highlights a slight regional variation in power distribution challenges. The capital and its surrounding metropolitan areas under the Dhaka zone face a projected deficit of 569 megawatts during the evening peak. While substantial, this figure marks an improvement from the previous day, when Saturday evening power cuts in the same zone reached 698 megawatts.

Energy sector analysts note that urban centres like Dhaka consistently experience heavier load pressures due to concentrated industrial activity, dense commercial hubs, and high residential air-conditioning usage during warm spells. Balancing supply and demand remains a persistent logistical hurdle for grid operators during peak consumption windows, forcing scheduled rotational outages to protect national infrastructure from overload.

Regional distribution networks across the country face varying degrees of supply constraints. Mymensingh and Khulna are each anticipated to experience 250 megawatts of load-shedding, while northern districts under the Rajshahi and রংপুর (Rangpur) zones face deficits of 200 megawatts each. Further south and east, Chattogram and Cumilla are slated for 150 megawatts of power cuts apiece.

Lighter deficits are projected for smaller administrative regions. The Sylhet zone anticipates roughly 100 megawatts of load management, while the Barishal zone faces the lowest impact nationwide, with an estimated 70 megawatts of load-shedding.

Grid management teams continue to monitor real-time generation capacity and transmission stability to minimise disruptions for domestic and commercial consumers as evening demand peaks.
