Professor Dr. Faridul Islam Appointed Rabi Vice-Chancellor

Professor Dr. Mohammad Faridul Islam has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University (Rabi). The official announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Haque Milon, during a briefing at the Ministry of Education on Monday, 16 March, at 4:00 pm.

Professor Akhtar Hossain Majumdar commented on the appointment, stating, “We have not yet received the official gazette notification. However, we have been informed that Professor Faridul Islam has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor. Once the notification is received, he will be formally introduced to all administrative and academic responsibilities at the university.”

Speaking about his new role, Professor Dr. Faridul Islam said, “I am mentally prepared to assume the responsibilities of Vice-Chancellor. While I have not yet received the official notification, I am committed to advancing the university’s academic and research standards.”

Dr. Faridul Islam is currently serving as the General Secretary of the Rajshahi University Zia Council and is also an active member of the Nationalist Teachers’ Forum and the University Teachers’ Association of Bangladesh (UTAB). In 2022, he was elected Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies under the BNP-Jamaat panel.

His academic career spans more than two decades, beginning in 1996 when he joined the university as a Lecturer. He was promoted to Professor in 2020. Dr. Faridul Islam completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Marketing in 1989 and 1990, respectively, at Rajshahi University. He later pursued advanced studies abroad, earning a Master’s degree from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2006 and a PhD from Curtin University, Australia, in 2013.

His research contributions are well-recognised, with multiple publications in national and international journals, reflecting his expertise in marketing and business studies. His leadership and experience are expected to enhance both the academic environment and research output at Rajshahi University.
