Fearing that local stock shortages would jeopardize their crops, dozens of anxious farmers gathered on the Sonahat Land Port road adjacent to the Sonahat Union Council premises. Protesters attempted to set up a roadblock, temporarily halting vehicular traffic heading towards the land port.

Local farmers expressed frustration over operational delays at distribution points. Many had arrived early in the morning expecting dealers to begin sales promptly. As waiting times grew, anxiety spread that dealers would run out of stock, prompting farmers to pour onto the street in protest. Several farmers reported having spent days searching for fertilizer across various dealer outlets without success, fueling fears of artificial shortages during a crucial phase of the cultivation season.

Upon receiving reports of the roadblock, Bhurungamari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Amrita Deb Nath arrived at the scene alongside local police forces to manage the situation. Addressing the crowd through a loudspeaker, the UNO assured gathered farmers that the sub-district possessed adequate stocks of government-allocated fertilizer. He appealed for calm and requested that everyone form orderly queues at the dealer counters.

Clarifying the morning’s events, UNO Amrita Deb Nath stated that official distribution had not originally been scheduled for the Sonahat College Mode dealer point on Wednesday. However, a large gathering of farmers assembled at the site, attempting to secure supplies simultaneously rather than waiting in line. The resulting commotion led to the brief road obstruction. Authorities successfully restored order, allowing distribution to proceed smoothly across multiple points, including the Camp Mode dealer outlet. The local administration reaffirmed that there is no shortage of fertilizer in the upazila, urging farmers to refrain from panic buying.
