Taylor Swift has paid tribute to the legendary screen star Elizabeth Taylor with the release of a new music video for her single “Elizabeth Taylor,” the third official track from her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl. The visual premiered on Tuesday, 31 March, exclusively on Spotify and Apple Music, delighting fans with its nostalgic homage to one of Hollywood’s most celebrated figures.
Unlike the cinematic narratives of previous singles such as The Fate of Ophelia and Opalite, the video is a reflective and celebratory montage. It features archival footage of Elizabeth Taylor throughout her life, blending images from her iconic film roles—including Cleopatra (1963) and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966)—with candid public appearances and personal moments, emphasising her enduring impact on both film and culture.
The release strategy follows a familiar pattern from Swift’s recent singles, with initial streaming exclusivity on Spotify and Apple Music. While the date for a YouTube release has not yet been confirmed, the approach may reflect recent Billboard policy changes, which no longer count YouTube streams toward chart placement.
Despite this limited early release, “Elizabeth Taylor” has already reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, demonstrating Swift’s continued commercial and cultural influence. For context, her earlier singles from the same album achieved substantial chart success, including The Fate of Ophelia, which spent ten weeks at No. 1.

Swift confirmed that she sought permission from Taylor’s estate before releasing the song, given the numerous lyrical references to the actress. Speaking to Radio 2’s Breakfast Show, she described the estate as “lovely” and confirmed they had granted approval. Christopher Wilding, Taylor’s son, told PEOPLE that he enjoyed the song immediately, noting that it captures the parallels between Swift’s and his mother’s careers. “They are both the very embodiment of female empowerment,” he said, praising Swift for celebrating Taylor’s legacy in such a thoughtful manner.
Elizabeth Taylor passed away in March 2011 at the age of 79, but she remains one of Hollywood’s most iconic figures. Her talent, charisma, and philanthropic legacy continue to inspire audiences worldwide, with songwriter Carol Bayer Sager once describing her as “the closest thing we have in America to royalty.”
