The president of the Islami Chhatra Shibir unit at Rajshahi University, Mujahid Faisal, has publicly challenged the office expenditure reports submitted by Salauddin Ammar, General Secretary of the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU). Speaking at a press conference, Faisal described the reported office expenses of 370,000 taka as completely unrealistic.
The address took place at around 11:30 am on Tuesday, 25 August, near the university’s Transport Market premises, where student union representatives and media personnel had gathered.
Addressing questions from journalists, Mujahid Faisal alleged that the General Secretary had withdrawn 370,000 taka under the banner of official administrative costs and subsequently attributed the expenditure across various executive departments. However, calculations made by Shibir’s elected representatives indicate that the total legitimate operational expenses across all other departments should not have exceeded 50,000 to 60,000 taka in total.
Faisal argued that Ammar cannot evade accountability for individual financial irregularities by shifting the burden of expenditure onto other secretariats. He demanded a full itemised breakdown supported by documentary evidence detailing the exact sums spent by each department. Clarifying his organisation’s position, the Shibir president stressed that because Ammar was not elected as part of their panel, Islami Chhatra Shibir accepts no responsibility for his administrative actions or personal financial accounts.
Efforts to obtain a response from Salauddin Ammar regarding these financial allegations were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
Beyond the allegations of financial impropriety, the press conference served as a platform for the Rajshahi University Shibir unit to outline a series of structural demands regarding campus governance. The organisation urged university authorities to announce a schedule for upcoming RUCSU elections and officially incorporate the student union election cycle into the university’s academic calendar.
Additional demands raised during the meeting focused on student welfare and infrastructure. The leaders called for a comprehensive roadmap to guarantee 100 per cent residential accommodation for students, an interim housing allowance for non-resident students, the establishment of a fully-equipped modern medical centre on campus, and the immediate activation of the university Senate.
The press conference was attended by key unit officials, including Rajshahi University Shibir General Secretary Mehedi Hasan and Publicity and Media Secretary Mehedi Sajib, alongside several elected hall representatives and activist members.
