Sabina Yasmin Set for Two Musical Appearances in Britain

Bangladeshi music legend Sabina Yasmin has travelled to the United Kingdom for two musical engagements in London and Scotland, where she is set to perform before Bengali-speaking audiences.

The celebrated singer left Dhaka on a 7.40am flight on Sunday for the UK. According to her schedule, she will perform at a concert in London on 11 October, followed by another musical programme in Scotland on 15 October. She is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on 18 October.

Sabina is travelling with tabla player Chandan Dutta, lead guitarist Monowar Hossain Tutul and keyboard player Partha Pratim Bappy. The musicians will accompany her during the performances, providing the instrumental support for her UK engagements.

Chandan Dutta said the 17th London Bangla Book Fair and Literary-Cultural Festival will begin on 10 October at The Brady Arts & Community Centre on Hanbury Street in East London. Sabina Yasmin is scheduled to perform on the second day of the festival at a venue in Mayfair.

The London Bangla Book Fair and Literary-Cultural Festival is regarded as an important cultural gathering for the expatriate Bengali community. Alongside its literary activities, the event creates a space for music and other cultural expressions, helping people living abroad maintain a connection with the Bengali language and heritage.

Such programmes also have a particular significance for younger generations raised outside Bangladesh. Exposure to Bengali books, music and cultural traditions can help them remain connected with the language and heritage of their families.

Sabina Yasmin said she also performed at the London Bangla Book Fair and Literary-Cultural Festival last year. She expressed her happiness at returning to the event and said it holds a special place among expatriate Bengalis. She believes cultural initiatives of this kind can play a meaningful role in keeping younger generations connected with Bengali language and culture.

After her London performance, Sabina will travel to Scotland for the 15 October event. She is expected to receive an enthusiastic response from Bengali-speaking audiences there, as she has done during previous overseas performances.

Sabina Yasmin has enjoyed a distinguished career spanning several decades and remains one of the most prominent voices in Bangladesh’s music industry. Her extensive repertoire of popular songs has established her as a defining figure in the country’s musical heritage.

Her appearances abroad have also continued to attract strong interest among expatriate Bangladeshis. For audiences in London and Scotland, the upcoming performances will offer an opportunity to hear the veteran singer live while celebrating Bengali music and cultural identity.

The UK visit comes with two distinct engagements, but both are closely linked by a common thread: music as a way of preserving cultural ties. Sabina Yasmin’s performances are therefore expected to bring together audiences who share an enduring connection with Bengali music, regardless of where they now live.
