Six Arrested Following Political Procession in Gopalganj

Police in the Gopalganj Sadar upazila have detained six individuals following a political procession organised by local Chhatra League activists. The incident occurred around midday on Friday in the Bajunia Mona Market area, situated within the Majhigati union. According to local reports and police accounts, the gathering drew immediate attention from law enforcement due to the nature of the demonstration.

The procession was reportedly led by Omar Faruk Khan Ripon, the former general secretary of the municipal branch of the organisation. During the march, participants chanted various slogans, prompting nearby residents and local observers to take notice. Law enforcement personnel were quickly dispatched to the area to maintain public order and monitor the unfolding situation.

Upon the arrival of police officers, the majority of the demonstrators dispersed and fled the scene. However, officers successfully intercepted and detained six young men. The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Ratul Mollah, son of Thanda Mollah; Munna Sheikh, son of Ahmed Sheikh; Rifat Sheikh, son of Mohammad Ripon Sheikh; Mehedi Hasan, son of Sharafat Sheikh; Hridoy Khan, son of Ramzan Ali; and Rishad Sheikh, son of Zakir Sheikh, all hailing from local villages within Gopalganj Sadar.

Md Aminul Islam, the officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, confirmed the details of the operation to the press. He stated that police responded promptly after receiving information regarding the unauthorised gathering. Law enforcement teams are continuing their efforts to identify and track down other participants who managed to slip away during the dispersal.

Public demonstrations that lack proper administrative clearance or generate local tension are closely monitored by regional authorities to ensure community safety. Police presence was temporarily increased around the Bajunia Mona Market and surrounding neighbourhoods to restore complete calm following the incident.

Legal proceedings against the six detained individuals are currently being processed at the local police station. Authorities have noted that once preliminary administrative formalities are concluded, the suspects will be presented before the court in accordance with standard legal protocols. Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the rally to determine the appropriate legal steps moving forward.
