Police in the Gopalganj Sadar upazila have detained six individuals following a political procession organised by local Chhatra League activists. The incident occurred around midday on Friday in the Bajunia Mona Market area, situated within the Majhigati union. The procession was reportedly led by Omar Faruk Khan Ripon, the former general secretary of the municipal branch of the organisation. The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Ratul Mollah, son of Thanda Mollah; Munna Sheikh, son of Ahmed Sheikh; Rifat Sheikh, son of Mohammad Ripon Sheikh; Mehedi Hasan, son of Sharafat Sheikh; Hridoy Khan, son of Ramzan Ali; and Rishad Sheikh, son of Zakir Sheikh, all hailing from local villages within Gopalganj Sadar.
Md Aminul Islam, the officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, confirmed the details of the operation to the press. He stated that police responded promptly after receiving information regarding the unauthorised gathering. Law enforcement teams are continuing their efforts to identify and track down other participants who managed to slip away during the dispersal.
