SSC Candidate Killed in Chandpur Road Accident

A tragic road accident in the Bagadi area of Chandpur Sadar Upazila has resulted in the death of a 17-year-old Secondary School Certificate (SSC) candidate, Md. Zoha. Another motorcycle rider, identified as 20-year-old Md. Sazzil, sustained severe injuries in the same incident. The collision occurred on Sunday (31 May) at approximately 1:30 pm on the Chandpur-Raipur Highway, specifically in the Islampur Gachtala Badamtoli area.

Circumstances of the Incident

According to local witnesses, Md. Zoha and his friend, Md. Sazzil, were travelling by motorcycle from their residence via the Faridpur road. As their vehicle reached the Islampur Gachtala Badamtoli section of the Chandpur-Raipur Highway, a speeding lorry struck the motorcycle from behind. The impact caused both riders to be thrown onto the tarmac. Md. Zoha sustained critical injuries from the fall.

Nearby residents immediately gathered at the scene to rescue the victims. Both individuals were urgently transported to the Chandpur Government General Hospital for emergency medical attention. Upon arrival, the attending physician examined Zoha and pronounced him dead.

Background and Family History

Family members stated that Zoha was the younger of two siblings. Since his childhood, he had been living with his mother at his maternal grandfather’s residence in Islampur Gachtala, rather than his paternal home in Shahrasti Upazila. He was a maternal nephew of Mohammad Ali Pathan, the former Union Parishad (UP) Chairman of the Islampur Gachtala Pathan house. This year, Zoha had appeared for his SSC examinations from the Chandpur Government Technical School.

The injured rider, Md. Sazzil, belongs to the Patwary family of the same village and remains admitted to the local hospital.

Medical and Official Statements

Dr Asibul Hasan, the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) at Chandpur Government General Hospital, confirmed the fatality. He stated that the student, Zoha, had succumbed to his injuries prior to reaching the hospital facility.

Mintu Datta, the Inspector (Investigation) of the Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed that the lorry fled the scene immediately after striking the motorcycle riders. Police personnel have conducted the formal inquest (Surathal) report on the deceased.

Inspector Datta added that the injured youth is currently receiving medical care, and the body of the deceased will be handed over to his relatives once all necessary legal formalities are completed.
