Student Abducted in Dhaka Found Murdered in Habiganj

The body of a young man, identified as a university student abducted from Dhaka, was recovered by the police in Madhabpur, Habiganj, on Tuesday morning (5 May). The deceased, 23-year-old Md. Farhad Hossain Mahi, was found near the Andiuira Ummetunnessa High School, situated adjacent to the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway. Farhad was the son of Abdul Awal, a resident of the Chanpara area under Uttarkhan Police Station in Dhaka, and was a student at the Uttara branch of World University of Bangladesh.

Circumstances of the Abduction and Murder

According to police reports, the incident began on the night of 30 April, when Farhad was abducted by a group of miscreants in a premeditated operation. Investigators believe the victim was subsequently transported to a secluded room in the Aftabnagar area, under the jurisdiction of Badda Police Station. It is suspected that Farhad was subjected to severe physical torture before being murdered.

Following the killing, the perpetrators allegedly transported the body approximately 150 kilometres away from the capital to dispose of it in a rural area of Habiganj, presumably to conceal evidence and evade detection. Local residents discovered the body on Tuesday morning and promptly alerted the authorities.

Investigation and Arrests

Law enforcement agencies have made significant progress in the case with the arrest of an individual identified as Mridul Sarkar. During initial interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to his direct involvement in the abduction and subsequent murder of the student.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madhabpur Police Station, Sohel Rana, confirmed the recovery of the body and stated that it has been sent to the Habiganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The post-mortem examination is expected to provide definitive evidence regarding the cause and time of death, as well as the nature of the injuries sustained by the victim.
