A man has been taken into custody in the early hours of Thursday following a targeted raid by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the Satkhira district, which led to the recovery of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Acting on a precise intelligence tip-off, an operational team from RAB-6 executed the pre-dawn drive at approximately 5:30 am in the Choubaria area of Satkhira Sadar Upazila. The operation resulted in the apprehension of 31-year-old Md Ariful Islam, a local resident and son of Md Joynal Sardar.
During the search, law enforcement officers seized a foreign-made pistol, two locally manufactured single-shot firearms—commonly known as one-shooter guns—and 11 rounds of live ammunition. The illicit weapons and rounds were formally confiscated on-site in the presence of independent witnesses, adhering strictly to standard legal procedures.
A formal case has been registered against Ariful at Satkhira Sadar Police Station, to which he and the seized evidence have been handed over for further legal proceedings and judicial action.
Confirming the details of the operation, Additional Superintendent of Police Zayen Uddin Muhammad Ziad, Company Commander of RAB-6 (CPC-1, Satkhira), emphasised the elite force’s ongoing commitment to public safety. He reaffirmed that rigorous drives targeting illegal arms trafficking, narcotics trade, and notorious criminal networks within the region will continue unabated.
Satkhira, situated near the southwestern border of Bangladesh, has historically been a strategic focus area for law enforcement agencies combating smuggling activities and illicit arms proliferation. Regional units like RAB-6 routinely intensify surveillance and intelligence-led strikes to neutralise armed syndicates and maintain law and order across border-adjacent districts.
