Taka Holds Firm as Central Bank Releases October Exchange Rates

Bangladesh Bank has released the official foreign exchange rates, offering clear guidance for commercial institutions, traders, and individual remitters navigating the foreign currency market. According to the latest data updated on 18 October, the Bangladeshi Taka continues to demonstrate relative stability across major international currencies.

For transactions involving the US Dollar, the central bank set the buying rate at 123.55 Taka and the selling rate at 123.58 Taka. The greenback remains a critical benchmark for Bangladesh’s international trade, import bills, and inbound expatriate remittances. Meanwhile, European and British currencies maintain a higher value against the local currency. The British Pound is quoted at 164.67 Taka for buying and 164.73 Taka for selling, whilst the Euro stands at 138.86 Taka buying and 138.90 Taka selling.

Financial institutions across the country rely on these official standard quotes to determine daily operational rates for spot transactions, import letters of credit (LCs), and credit card settlements. Regional foreign exchange rates reflect consistent valuation as well. The Singapore Dollar trades at 96.55 Taka buying and 96.58 Taka selling, whereas the Australian Dollar sits at 85.79 Taka buying and 85.89 Taka selling. Additionally, the Chinese Yuan is valued at 18.48 Taka buying and 18.49 Taka selling. Both the Indian Rupee and Japanese Yen maintain identical figures across buying and selling, standing at 1.30 Taka and 0.78 Taka per unit respectively.

Market observers note that the stability in current exchange rates provides much-needed predictability for local businesses and importers. Fluctuations in foreign exchange prices directly affect essential commodity prices, fuel imports, and overall domestic inflation dynamics. Consequently, closer tracking of central bank updates remains vital for commercial banks and traders managing foreign liquidity in an evolving macroeconomic environment.
