Tamim Iqbal Chairs First Bangladesh Cricket Board Meeting

The newly elected directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) held their inaugural administrative meeting to distribute departmental portfolios and responsibilities among the board members. The formal session, which took place on Tuesday, 9 June, was concluded in less than one hour under the chairmanship of the newly appointed Board President, Tamim Iqbal. A notable structural outcome of this initial meeting was the decision not to assign a separate independent chairman to lead the high-profile Cricket Operations department, which oversees the national cricket teams.

Presidential Portfolios and Departmental Leadership Assignments

According to official sources present at the administrative convention, the Board President, Tamim Iqbal, has directly assumed personal charge of both the Working Committee and the Facilities department. In the absence of a distinct, independently appointed chairman for the Cricket Operations department, standard institutional protocols dictate that the operational management of this vital sector will remain under the direct supervision and authority of the President himself.

The distribution of leadership roles among the other executive board members was finalised during the session as follows:

• Fahim Sinha (Vice-President): Appointed as the head of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Governing Council and the Game Development department.

• Shaniyan Tanim: Assigned as the chairman of both the Grounds department and the High Performance (HP) unit.

• Rafiqul Islam: Entrusted with the leadership of the Women’s Wing, moving from his previous role managing the Grounds department under the recently dissolved ad-hoc committee.

• Minhajul Abedin: The former national team captain has been positioned as the head of the Age Group Tournament department.

• Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury: Appointed to lead the Disciplinary Committee.

• Israfil Khosru: Handed the responsibility of directing the Finance department.

• Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed: Selected to serve as the head of both the Security Committee and the Tender and Purchase Committee.

• Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir: Granted the leadership of the Tournament Committee.

• Yasir Mohammad Faysal: Designated as the chairman of the Logistics and Protocol Committee.

• Professor Dr Mohammad Mahbub Ahmed Shamim: Put in charge of the Medical Committee.

• Asif Rabbani: Appointed as the head of the Media and Communications Committee.

• Moin Uddin Chowdhury: Placed in charge of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM).

• Abdullah Al Fuad: Appointed as the chairman of the Physically Challenged Cricket Committee.

• Sayed Bin Zaman: Appointed to oversee the Audit Committee.

• Sheikh Mohammad Ruhul Amin: Entrusted with the leadership of the Cricketers’ Welfare Committee.

Structural Board Demographics and Tender Resignation

Out of the 24 elected directors constituting the core governing body of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, a total of 18 members were successfully assigned to specific departmental chairmanships during the Tuesday session. Two directors, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mirza Faysal Ameen, did not receive primary chairmanships but were instead appointed as vice-chairmen for two distinct committees. Conversely, the remaining four directors on the board—Mizanur Rahman, Shantunu Islam, Shafiqul Alam, and Sakif Ahmed—were not allocated any departmental portfolios or responsibilities during this initial meeting.

Furthermore, the board formally accepted the resignation letter tendered by Mir Shakrul Alam. He had previously been elected to the board from the Rajshahi division category without facing any active electoral opposition.

Infrastructure Upgrades and Transport Approvals

In addition to the allocation of administrative portfolios, the board members utilized the session to grant formal policy approvals for several infrastructural development projects aimed at modernising existing national cricket facilities. The executive body approved the construction of a dedicated swimming pool inside the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium complex in Mirpur for the exclusive use of national cricketers.

The directors also ratified a structural upgrade project to install a comprehensive roof over the open galleries of the Mirpur stadium. Finally, the board formally sanctioned the immediate procurement of a new, dedicated official team bus to facilitate the transport logistics of the Bangladesh national cricket team.
