Teenage Boy Struck By Lightning In Comilla Field

A tragic incident occurred in the Debidwar Upazila of the Comilla District on Tuesday, 9 June, when a fifteen-year-old boy lost his life after being struck directly by lightning. The fatal event took place while the young boy was working alongside his father in an agricultural field.

The emergency event was reported to have transpired at approximately 3:45 pm within the rural jurisdiction of Simarkanda village, which is situated under the administrative purview of the Allahabad Union in the Debidwar Upazila.

The deceased teenager has been officially identified as Minhajur Rahman, aged 15. He was the son of Billal Hossain, a resident of the same village of Simarkanda. Furthermore, the youth was a registered student enrolled in the eighth class at Allahabad High School. The local community has been deeply affected by the sudden and untimely death of the schoolboy, with a profound shadow of grief spreading across the entire neighborhood and school fraternity following the announcement of his passing.

Details of the Incident in Allahabad Union

According to localized statements provided by close family members, including Shamima Akhter Rima, a prominent local women’s leader residing in Allahabad village and a near relative of the deceased, the father and son were engaged in routine agricultural labour at the time of the natural disaster. The duo was working in close proximity to one another, manually transplanting young paddy seedlings into the muddy soil of their crop field.

During the late afternoon hours, weather conditions deteriorated rapidly, leading to a sudden and powerful lightning strike that descended directly upon the specific agricultural plot where they were stationed. The atmospheric electrical discharge struck fifteen-year-old Minhajur Rahman with immense force, resulting in his immediate death at the scene of the impact. Conversely, his father, Billal Hossain, who was standing right next to him during the sudden strike, miraculously survived the ordeal completely uninjured and physically unharmed.

Administrative Response and Official Verification

Following the natural disaster, information regarding the teenager’s death began circulating widely through the surrounding villages and local communication networks. This widespread dissemination prompted multiple citizens and local reporters to reach out to the municipal authorities to confirm the logistical facts surrounding the weather-related fatality in Simarkanda village.

When approached for an official institutional statement later that day, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Debidwar Police Station, Mo. Moniruzzaman, acknowledged that the police administration had received numerous telephone queries from various individuals seeking detailed information regarding the death of the teenager from the evening onwards.

The head of the police station officially clarified that, up until that specific period, no member of the public or the victim’s immediate family had lodged a formal written complaint or official administrative notification regarding the lightning event with the local police department. The Officer-in-Charge concluded his statement by ensuring that, despite the lack of a formal written report from the family, the police station had initiated its own inquiries and was actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
