Three Arrested in Pabna Arms Raid

In a targeted intelligence-led operation in the Gaishapur area of Pabna Sadar, detectives have arrested three individuals on charges related to illegal arms possession and manufacturing. A range of firearms, ammunition, and weapon-making components were also recovered during the raid, according to police sources.

The arrests were formally announced during a press briefing held on Sunday (26 April) in front of the office of the Superintendent of Police. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the suspects were detained following a coordinated operation conducted the previous day.

Among those arrested has been identified as Afzal Hossain (60), a resident of Kumilli village. The identities of the remaining two detainees have not yet been officially disclosed.

Details of the operation

Acting on intelligence suggesting that Afzal Hossain had long been involved in the illegal storage, production, and trade of firearms, a team from the district detective branch conducted a raid on Saturday afternoon in Kumilli village under Pabna Sadar upazila.

Upon arrival of the law enforcement team, Afzal Hossain allegedly attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended. Based on information provided during initial questioning, officers subsequently searched his residence and recovered a cache of weapons.

Further searches extended to a workshop linked to the suspect at Rupkotha Road in Borhan Market within Pabna municipality. There, police reportedly discovered a range of firearm components and manufacturing tools.

Seized materials

Authorities confirmed the recovery of both complete firearms and various mechanical parts commonly used in weapon assembly. These included foreign-made pistols, a single-barrel gun, ammunition, and multiple engineering tools used in fabrication.

Category Items Recovered
Firearms 1 single-barrel gun, 2 foreign pistols
Ammunition 4 rounds of bullets, .22 bore cartridges and spent casings
Weapon parts Triggers, clips, springs, firing pins, barrel components
Workshop tools Drilling machine and auxiliary equipment

Investigation findings

According to the district detective police, preliminary interrogation revealed that Afzal Hossain could not produce any valid documentation for the recovered firearms or components. Although his trade licence reportedly stated activities related to sewing machine servicing and air gun repairs, investigators allege that he was in fact engaged in the illegal repair, assembly, and trading of firearms and related parts.

Officials further indicated that the recovered materials strongly suggest involvement in an organised network dealing in illicit arms modification and supply. However, investigations are ongoing to determine whether additional individuals or syndicates are linked to the operation.

Legal action

Following the seizure of weapons and arrest of the suspects, a case has been filed under the Arms Act. The detained individuals have since been transferred to Pabna Sadar Police Station for further interrogation and legal proceedings.

Authorities have stated that efforts will continue to dismantle any wider network connected to illegal arms manufacturing and distribution in the region.
