Tongi Madrasa Vice-Principal Beaten Over Child Abuse Allegation

A vice-principal of a madrasa in Auchpara, Tongi, Gazipur, was allegedly assaulted by local residents following accusations of sexually abusing a seven-year-old pupil. Police rescued the accused, identified as Musleuddin, from the crowd and took him to the police station on Wednesday afternoon, 21 October.

Musleuddin was serving as vice-principal of Law Quran International Madrasa, where the alleged incident reportedly took place. The child’s family claims that the incident occurred three days before the allegations came to light.

According to her family, the girl had been reluctant to attend the madrasa since the alleged abuse. Her relatives became concerned when she repeatedly refused to go to her classes. Initially, she did not explain her reluctance, but she eventually opened up to her family about what she claimed had happened to her.

After hearing the child’s account, her father went to the madrasa on Wednesday afternoon to question the vice-principal about the allegation. The matter soon became known locally, prompting residents to gather at the institution.

Tensions escalated, and an agitated crowd allegedly attacked the teacher. Police were informed of the incident and arrived at the scene to rescue him from the crowd. They subsequently took him into custody and brought him to the police station for further legal proceedings.

The incident sparked anger and unrest in the area, with renewed concerns over children’s safety in educational institutions and the responsibility of those entrusted with their care.

Arif Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tongi West Police Station, confirmed that the police had taken action. “I have heard about the incident. It is very unfortunate. We have detained him, and further legal action is being taken,” he said.

The allegations had not been independently verified at the time of reporting. Further details about the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings were not immediately available.

Cases involving alleged sexual abuse of children require careful handling, particularly when the accused holds a position of responsibility within an educational institution. A thorough and impartial investigation is essential to establish what happened and determine whether criminal charges are warranted.

The child’s welfare must remain a priority throughout the process. Protecting her identity, ensuring her safety and providing appropriate emotional support are important steps in preventing further distress. Children who disclose alleged abuse should be heard sensitively and without pressure, while their families should be able to seek assistance from the relevant authorities.

At the same time, public anger cannot justify taking the law into one’s own hands. Assaulting a suspect risks further violence and undermines the proper legal process. The authorities must establish the facts through an evidence-based investigation and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.

The case highlights the importance of safeguarding measures in educational institutions, prompt responses to allegations involving children and accountability for those responsible for their care. The outcome will depend on the findings of the investigation and the evidence available to the authorities.
