Police in Gazipur have arrested a high-profile narcotics operative, known locally as “Kutta Mizan”, recovering a substantial quantity of class-A illicit substances alongside cash and communication devices. Officers from the Tongi West Police Station carried out the targeted midnight operation near Gate No. 2 of the Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium, positioned along the western corridor of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Mizan, had been under surveillance as a key supplier within the regional narcotics trade. Acting on precise intelligence regarding an imminent contraband transaction, law enforcement personnel surrounded the stadium perimeter at approximately 1:30 am on Friday. Mizan was intercepted at the scene while attempting to facilitate the distribution of the consignment.

A body search conducted immediately following his detention yielded one kilogramme of high-purity heroin and 2,500 individual yaba pills—a potent synthetic methamphetamine compound widely circulated across urban smuggling networks. In addition to the contraband, officers seized 5,510 taka in cash believed to be proceeds from illicit sales, two smartphones used to coordinate transactions, and a motorcycle utilised for transporting the supplies.

The industrial belt of Tongi, situated on the northern periphery of Dhaka, has long served as a critical transit node for illegal narcotics due to its dense transport infrastructure and proximity to major highway networks. The trade in synthetic drugs like yaba, alongside traditional opiates like heroin, presents ongoing challenges for law enforcement agencies operating across Gazipur Metropolitan area. Authorities have intensified intelligence-led operations in the district to dismantle local distribution hubs and target repeat offenders driving the regional trade.

Officer-in-Charge of Tongi West Police Station, Ariful Rahman, confirmed the details of the raid and stated that a formal case has been registered under the Narcotics Control Act. Following the completion of preliminary interrogation and procedural documentation, police remitted Mizan to the judicial authorities in Gazipur on Friday afternoon for formal arraignment and further legal proceedings.
