The two drowned children have been identified as seven-year-old Rohan, son of Hazrat Ali, and six-year-old Ismail, son of Ebadul Islam. Both families reside in Madhya Nakshi village, situated within the Kolaspur Union of Nalitabari upazila.

According to local sources, the two young boys left their respective homes together at around noon on Sunday, 23 August, to play. When they failed to return by afternoon, anxious family members launched an extensive search across the village and surrounding areas. The hours-long search ended in tragedy at approximately 2:30 am on Sunday night when local residents spotted the children’s bodies floating in a nearby pond and pulled them from the water.

In two unrelated incidents on the same day, law enforcement officers recovered the bodies of two females from different parts of Nalitabari upazila. The deceased have been identified as 15-year-old Kamrun Nahar Shakila, daughter of Kamrul Islam from Tantar village, and 65-year-old Nur Jahan Begum, wife of Abdus Sattar from Nayabil village.

Officer-in-Charge of Nalitabari Police Station, Ashrafuzzaman, confirmed the details to reporters, stating that preliminary findings indicate the two boys died after accidentally falling into the pond without knowing how to swim. Following primary procedural formalities, police handed over the bodies of Rohan and Ismail to their respective grieving families without an autopsy upon request.

The police chief added that legal procedures regarding the deaths of Kamrun Nahar Shakila and Nur Jahan Begum are currently underway. Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding those two deaths to determine the exact causes and ascertain whether any foul play was involved.
