Tragic Drowning: Two Children Lose Their Lives in Lakshmipur

A tragic accident occurred on Sunday evening in Udmara village, Raipur Upazila, Lakshmipur, where two children drowned in a local pond.

The victims were identified as:

• Sabiya Akhtar, aged 9, daughter of Nurnubi Matabbar
• Nafisa, aged 10, daughter of Rahman Matabbar

Both girls were cousins and residents of the same village.

According to local police sources, the children were bathing in a pond near their home when they went missing. They were later found floating in the water. Residents immediately rescued them and rushed them to Raipur Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctors declared them dead.

The Officer-in-Charge of Raipur Police Station, Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan, confirmed the unfortunate incident.

Local authorities have urged parents and guardians to exercise greater vigilance near water bodies, especially during evening hours, to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
