Tragic Family Dispute Claims Man’s Life in Chittagong’s Boalkhali

A bitter domestic quarrel turned tragic in Chittagong’s Boalkhali upazila after a 38-year-old grocer was struck to death with a spade by his younger brother. The police have arrested two women in connection with the homicide, whilst the primary suspect remains on the run as law enforcement intensifies its manhunt.

The fatal incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the Asu Talukdar residence in Ghoshkhil village, situated within Ward No. 9 of Middle Shakpura under Shakpura Union. The victim, identified as Md. Nezam Uddin, was the eldest son of the late Abdul Halim and ran a local grocery shop to support his family. According to local sources, an argument broke out between the family members over long-standing domestic disputes, which escalated rapidly into physical violence. In the heat of the altercation, Nezam’s younger brother, 36-year-old Md. Jamal Uddin Suman, picked up a spade and struck him forcefully, leaving him critically injured on the spot. Nezam succumbed to his severe injuries shortly afterwards.

Following the horrific event, officers from Boalkhali Police Station arrived at the crime scene to recover the body. It was subsequently dispatched to the morgue at Chittagong Medical College Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination.

On Tuesday night, the victim’s grieving wife, Mosammat Paria Tanha Maima, filed a formal murder case at Boalkhali Police Station. The complaint named her brother-in-law, Md. Jamal Uddin Suman, as the prime accused. In addition, the victim’s 70-year-old mother, Halima Begum, and his sister-in-law, 26-year-old Sanjida Akter Poppy, were listed as co-accused in the murder case.

Acting promptly on the complaint, law enforcement officials arrested Halima Begum and Sanjida Akter Poppy. Confirming the developments, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boalkhali Police Station, Muzaffar Hossain, stated that the two arrested suspects have been presented before the court and subsequently remanded into judicial custody. Meanwhile, special police teams are conducting raids across potential hideouts to apprehend the absconding chief suspect, Jamal Uddin Suman, and bring him to justice.
