Two separate deaths in Thakurgaon’s Baliadangi and Ranisankail upazilas have been reported, with police recovering the bodies following incidents on Monday (18 May). Authorities have registered separate unnatural death cases in connection with both incidents.
In the first incident, an elderly man was found dead in Baliadangi upazila after allegedly ingesting pesticide. The deceased, identified as 68-year-old Sushil Chandra Roy of Dogachi (Girchapara) village, had reportedly been suffering from long-term physical illness. According to family sources and police accounts, he consumed pesticide at around 7:15 pm on Sunday without the knowledge of other household members. A local rural medical practitioner later arrived and declared him dead at the scene.
His younger brother, Shree Malin Chandra Roy, stated that the deceased had been unwell for approximately 18 years and had been enduring severe physical complications. Family members believe that prolonged suffering may have contributed to the tragic decision. As the family did not raise any allegations regarding the death, they have requested that the body be released for burial without a post-mortem examination. Baliadangi Police Station has recorded an unnatural death case (Case No. 15) in this regard.
In a separate incident in Ranisankail upazila, the body of a 20-year-old man was recovered after he allegedly died by suicide at his residence. The deceased, Swapan Kumar Roy, was a motorcycle mechanic by profession and had recently returned home from Dhaka. He was residing in Ujdhari village under No. 3 Hossengaon Union.
Local sources reported that tensions had arisen within the family over bringing his pregnant wife from her parental home. Following the dispute, the family had dinner and went to sleep. Later, Swapan Kumar Roy allegedly hanged himself in his bedroom using a scarf attached to a ceiling fan. His body was discovered hanging by family members on Monday morning.
Officer-in-Charge of Ranisankail Police Station, Amanullah Al Bari, confirmed that police recovered the body after receiving information from locals. An unnatural death case has been filed, and legal procedures are currently underway.
