In a mobile court operation in Netrokona’s Madan upazila, two individuals have been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and fined for their involvement in drug-related offences. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday afternoon in Dashashi village under Kaitail Union, following a targeted drive led by the local administration.
The convicted individuals have been identified as Palash Mia, son of the late Abdul Hakim of Dashashi village in Kaitail Union under Madan upazila, and Titu Mia, son of the late Abdur Rahim of Shagoli village in Kendua upazila of the same district. Both were accused of engaging in drug consumption and distribution activities in the locality.
According to official sources, the Department of Narcotics Control in Netrokona carried out an intelligence-based operation earlier in the day after receiving confidential information regarding ongoing drug use in the area. Acting on the tip-off, the team conducted a raid and apprehended the two men while they were reportedly in the act of consuming narcotics.
During the operation, authorities recovered approximately 200 grams of cannabis along with various drug-taking paraphernalia from their possession. The seized materials were later presented as evidence before the mobile court.
The mobile court was presided over by Madan Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Bedaboti Mistri, who conducted the proceedings under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. Following examination of the evidence and circumstances, the court sentenced both accused to six months’ imprisonment each and imposed a fine of 800 Bangladeshi Taka.
Law enforcement officials, including representatives from the Department of Narcotics Control, were present during the proceedings to ensure legal compliance and security throughout the operation.
