A group of people attacked two foreign nationals in Dhaka’s Bashundhara Residential Area today (March 4), accusing them of mugging a man who had just withdrawn Tk 2 lakh from a bank.
The two men, reportedly from a Middle Eastern country, sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital, according to Bhatara Police Station.
Locals suspected the foreigners had used Scopolamine, also known as “Devil’s Breath,” a substance notorious for incapacitating victims and making them susceptible to robbery.
A witness claimed to have seen the foreigners taking money from the victim as he exited the bank. Suspecting foul play, he confronted them. When challenged, the two men allegedly rushed to their car and attempted to flee.
The man raised an alarm, drawing the attention of bystanders, who chased down the vehicle. The enraged crowd vandalized the car and physically assaulted the two men.
A video of the attack circulated on social media, further fueling public discussion about the incident.
