Two people, including a woman, have died in separate railway incidents in Rajbari, within a gap of several hours. Railway police recovered a woman’s body from Kutipanchuria in Panchuria Union of Rajbari Sadar Upazila late on Monday night, followed by the body of a young man from the railway tracks in the Barlakshmipur area of Mizanpur Union on Tuesday morning.
The deceased man was identified as Shafik, aged around 30. He was the son of Rafiqul Islam, a resident of Banaripara Upazila in Barishal. The woman, believed to be around 50, has not yet been identified.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rajbari Railway Police Station, said officers recovered Shafik’s body from beside the railway tracks in Barlakshmipur after receiving information from local residents on Tuesday morning. The area is located west of Rajbari railway station.
According to the police, Shafik may have fallen from a shuttle train travelling from Rajbari to Kushtia and died as a result. However, the exact circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been established.
Earlier, police recovered the body of the unidentified woman from the Kutipanchuria area late on Monday night. Investigators suspect that she may have died after being struck by a train. Efforts are under way to establish her identity and determine the circumstances of the incident.
Police said both bodies were sent to the morgue at Rajbari Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examinations. The reports may help clarify the causes of death and provide further information about the two incidents.
Separate unnatural death cases have been filed at Rajbari Railway Police Station in connection with the deaths. Police are continuing their inquiries to establish what happened in each case.
Although the incidents occurred in two separate locations within the same upazila, the exact circumstances remain unclear. Investigators are expected to rely on the available evidence and post-mortem findings to determine the causes of the deaths.
