Two killed in separate road accidents in Kaptai and Longdu

Two people have died in separate road accidents on Thursday (27 November) evening and night in Kaptai and Longdu upazilas of Rangamati.

Ticket seller killed in Kaptai bus accident
According to local sources, at around 8:00 pm on Thursday, a Dhaka-bound Saudi Paribahan vehicle (Chatt Metro B-11-0679) struck a pedestrian, Md. Ilyas (45), in Sitaghat on the Kaptai–Chittagong road, resulting in his death.

The deceased, Ilyas, was the son of the late Nur Ahmed of Shilchhari, Ward 9, Wagga Union, Kaptai. He worked as a ticket seller at S Alam Counter in Kaptai Jetighat.

OC of Kaptai police, Kay Kislu, said Ilyas was walking along the road when the open locker of the bus hit him on the head, causing severe injuries. Locals rushed him to Kaptai Sadar Hospital, but he died on the way.

The OC added that the vehicle has been seized, but the driver, Md. Mahbub, has fled. The body has been kept at the hospital and legal procedures are ongoing.

Schoolboy killed by truck in Longdu
On Thursday evening, in West Baittapara, Sadar Union, Longdu, an eighth-grade student, Masum Al Hasan (15), was killed when a truck ran over him while he was riding a bicycle.

The deceased Masum was the son of Abdul Hannan from the area.

Eyewitnesses said Masum was riding along the side of the road when the truck (Chatt Metro T-12-0434) attempted to pass him. He suddenly fell to the right and was crushed under the rear wheel.

Relatives said he died before reaching the hospital. Dr. Bidhan, the duty doctor at Longdu Sadar Hospital, confirmed that the teenager died before arrival and suffered severe injuries, including a fractured right jaw.

Longdu police said the body has been kept for post-mortem examination. The truck driver, Mamun, fled after the accident and has not yet been arrested.
