Anxious families in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla have spent four harrowing days searching for two teenage schoolgirls who disappeared while on their way to classes. The missing teenagers, Mahima Akhtar Mahi and Tanisha Akhtar, vanished on Thursday morning (24 September), but news of their disappearance gained widespread attention on Sunday evening after being shared across social media networks.
Prior to the online appeals, the family of one of the missing girls filed a general diary (GD) with the local police station on Sunday afternoon (27 September) to formally request law enforcement assistance.
Both Ninth-Grade pupils reside in Jugirkandi village, located within the Kashinagar Union of Chauddagram. They attend the nearby Kashinagar Al Amin Madrasa together as classmates and close companions.

Police in Cumilla’s Chauddagram upazila have launched an extensive search operation following the mysterious disappearance of two teenage girls who vanished whilst travelling to their local educational institution four days ago.
The missing students, identified as Mahima Akter Mahi and Tanisha Akter, are both ninth-grade pupils at the Kashinagar Al Amin Madrasa. Both teenagers reside in Jugirkandi village, situated within the Kashinagar Union of Chauddagram. The incident has cast a pall of anxiety over the rural community, leaving family members increasingly desperate for news regarding their whereabouts.
According to police reports and family statements, Mahima and Tanisha departed from their respective homes at approximately 8:30 am on Thursday, 24th September, intending to attend their morning classes. Concerns arose later that evening when neither student returned home. Initial searches conducted by relatives across local areas, neighboring villages, and the residences of acquaintances yielded no trace of the pair.
Confirmation from the madrasa administration confirmed the families’ worst fears. Moniruzzaman, the principal of Kashinagar Al Amin Madrasa, verified that neither girl had registered their attendance on the day of their disappearance. He added that the institution was subsequently informed by the distressed parents that both pupils had gone missing somewhere along their route to class.
As word of the incident spread, news of the missing teenagers triggered widespread concern across local social media platforms by Sunday evening. Desperate appeals from residents have amplified the call for urgent official intervention.
Formally initiating the legal procedure, Taslima Akter, the mother of Mahima, lodged a General Diary (GD) with the Chauddagram Model Police Station on Sunday afternoon. Speaking to local reporters, Taslima expressed her agony over the situation, explaining that her daughter had left normally with her classmate Tanisha that morning. She emphasised that despite searching every conceivable location over four agonizing days, they remain entirely without clues, adding a heartfelt plea for the security forces to intervene swiftly.
Responding to the matter, Mohammad Arif Hossain, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chauddagram Model Police Station, acknowledged receipt of the General Diary. He assured the public that law enforcement personnel are actively utilising modern information technology and track-and-trace methodologies to determine the missing teenagers’ movements and secure their safe return.
