Ukraine Boosts Air Defence with New Patriot Missile Systems

Amid continued Russian assaults, Ukraine has received a further advanced air defence system, the US-made Patriot, strengthening its ability to intercept missiles. The new systems have been deployed as Ukrainian forces in Pokrovsk and Dobropillia face increasing pressure from Russian military advances.

Patriot systems have proven to be among the most effective weapons against Russian missiles used in the ongoing conflict. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that initiatives for arms exports and joint production are also set to begin in Europe.

As uncertainty persists over potential ceasefire talks, Russia continues to launch attacks across Ukraine. On Monday (3 November), Russian forces struck the Sumy and Mykolaiv regions with twelve missiles and 138 strikes, including decoy drones.

The assaults resulted in multiple casualties in the Sumy region. Kyiv claims that these attacks are specifically targeting Ukraine’s power and industrial infrastructure, disrupting fuel supply and delaying the production of new drones.

In Pokrovsk, Russian troops have entered the area, yet Ukrainian forces have maintained their resistance. Zelensky reported that between 260 and 300 Russian soldiers remain stationed in the city. In the northeast, Ukrainian forces have intensified operations around Dobropillia, while Russia is reportedly repositioning its troops.

In the meantime, Zelensky confirmed via social media that the new US Patriot system has arrived in Ukraine and is being deployed. He stressed that additional defensive measures are required to protect every city and key infrastructure, as these systems are highly effective against Russian cruise and ballistic missiles.

Furthermore, Zelensky announced that offices for Ukrainian arms exports and joint production will be opened in Berlin and Copenhagen. These initiatives aim to facilitate the export of naval drones and artillery systems while supporting domestic production and budget requirements. He added that the production of naval drones is currently twice the quantity being deployed.
