Police have recovered the dismembered body of a 60-year-old man from a bedroom at his nephew’s house in Ulipur, Kurigram, with investigators suspecting that he was hacked to death. The victim, identified as Moksed Ali, also known as Bachchu Mia, was staying at his nephew’s residence while visiting his village. The motive behind the killing and the identities of those responsible remain unknown.
The incident came to light at around 2.20 am on Tuesday, 20 October, in Panditpara, within Kishamat Madhupur Khamar village of Dharanibari Union in Ulipur upazila. Police were alerted to the incident through a call to the national emergency service number, 999. Officers from Ulipur Police Station subsequently arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
Bachchu Mia was the son of the late Sojar Uddin Sarkar and hailed from Nabdhiganj Kalabari in the Mahiganj area of Rangpur Metropolitan City. He had travelled from Rangpur to visit his village and was staying at the home of his nephew, Mithu Mia, when the incident occurred.
According to preliminary information gathered by police, Bachchu Mia is believed to have been killed at some point during Tuesday night. However, the exact time of the killing, the circumstances surrounding the incident and the possible motive have yet to be established.
Police prepared an inquest report at the scene as part of the initial investigation. The victim’s elder sister, Mazeda Begum, identified the body. Arrangements were being made to send it to the morgue at Kurigram Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.
The examination is expected to provide further evidence about the circumstances of his death. Investigators are also working to establish whether the killing was linked to a personal dispute, a family conflict or another motive. No explanation has yet been confirmed by the authorities.
Ulipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shawkat Ali said the investigation was under way. No one had been arrested in connection with the killing at the time of reporting.
He added that police were working to uncover the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible. The process of filing a case and taking further legal action was also under way.
Investigators are continuing to collect and verify information related to the killing. The motive and the identities of the perpetrators remain unclear, and further developments are expected as the investigation progresses.
