Upazila Chhatra Dal President Accused Of Assault

A formal allegation of physical assault and car hijacking has been raised against Abdullah Al Fahad, the president of the Baufal Upazila branch of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, in the Patuakhali District. The incident, which reportedly involved the assault of a private car driver, transpired on Tuesday afternoon, 9 June, on the Sadar Road located within the municipal town area. The altercation caused significant tension to spread across the locality, culminating in a notable traffic congestion on the public highway before law enforcement could restore order. In response to the development, the central committee of the Chhatra Dal has officially issued a show-cause notice to the accused leader.

Eyewitness Accounts and Details of the Dispute

According to eyewitnesses and the written grievances submitted by the affected parties, a local businessman identified as Rajib Hossain was travelling in his personal vehicle alongside a friend to deposit funds at the Kalaiya branch of Pubali Bank. The private car was being driven by his employed chauffeur, identified as Mo. Shahin Mya.

According to the statement provided by the driver, a traffic jam had formed along Sadar Road, causing vehicles to slow down. During this period, Abdullah Al Fahad, who was riding a motorcycle behind the private car, allegedly struck the rear of the car with his motorcycle several times. When Shahin Mya queried the motorcyclist regarding the repeated impact, Fahad reportedly parked his motorcycle by the side of the road, approached the driver, and initiated a physical assault against him.

The driver further asserted that Abdullah Al Fahad grew deeply angered after the private car passed adjacent to his motorcycle. After stopping the vehicle to confront the driver, the politician allegedly proceeded to assault him while simultaneously demanding to inspect the official registration and licensing documentation of the private motor car.

Allegations of Journalist Intimidation and Worker Statements

During the live confrontation on the public street, local journalists present at the scene attempted to capture video footage of the assault. However, the media personnel alleged that they faced immediate obstruction from the perpetrators. The journalists claimed that they were subjected to explicit verbal abuse and received direct threats aimed at forcing them to terminate their video recording.

A Chhatra Dal activist identified as Sajid has also been explicitly implicated in the incident. According to the statements compiled by the media workers, Sajid was actively involved in demonstrating intimidating behaviour towards the reporters and applying heavy pressure on them to ensure the digital recordings were halted.

Conversely, the primary accused individual, Abdullah Al Fahad, has systematically denied all the allegations leveled against his character. In a formal video statement published on his personal Facebook profile, the Upazila Chhatra Dal president asserted that he was travelling alongside his wife at the time of the event. He maintained that a private car had driven dangerously close to his motorcycle, which triggered immediate concerns regarding the physical safety of his spouse. Fahad claimed that when he approached the vehicle to discuss the reckless driving, the chauffeur grabbed his hand first. He acknowledged that he subsequently requested to see the vehicle’s legal paperwork but categorically rejected all accusations pertaining to physical assault, intimidation of journalists, and the use of offensive language.

Compounding the defense, Chhatra Dal activist Sajid stated that individuals inside the private car had behaved in an highly discourteous and ungentlemanly manner towards the organization’s regional president. Sajid added an additional contextual claim, stating that the president’s wife was pregnant at the time, and argued that anyone would become agitated under such threatening circumstances. Nevertheless, Sajid firmly denied any institutional or personal involvement in threatening or obstructing the working journalists at the scene.
