Woman Found Dead in Pond in Dhaka’s Dhamrai

Police have recovered the floating body of a 45-year-old housewife from a pond near her home in Ishannagar, in the Suapur Union of Dhamrai, on the outskirts of Dhaka. The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, and an investigation is under way to establish the exact cause.

The deceased, Tahmina Akter Shilpi, was the wife of local resident Azizur Rahman and a mother of two children. Her body was recovered on the morning of Thursday, 29 October, after local residents spotted it floating in a pond known as Chairman Bari pond.

According to police and local sources, residents noticed the body in the pond near Shilpi’s home in the Ishannagar area and alerted the authorities. Police from Dhamrai Police Station subsequently arrived at the scene and recovered the body.

The discovery prompted concern among local residents, while the circumstances of the incident remained uncertain. The location of the pond, close to the family’s home, has drawn attention to the account provided by the deceased’s relatives.

Family suspects accidental drowning

Members of Shilpi’s family believe she may have drowned accidentally while going to bathe in the pond in the early hours of Thursday. However, their account has not yet been independently established, and the police have not confirmed whether drowning was the cause of death.

The distinction is significant, as the circumstances surrounding the incident must be established before any definitive conclusion can be reached. The police are seeking to determine what happened before Shilpi’s body was found in the water.

Post-mortem examination planned

Shahidul Islam, an inspector (investigation) at Dhamrai Police Station, confirmed that the housewife’s body had been recovered. He said the exact cause of death had not yet been determined.

The body was being sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for a post-mortem examination to help establish how she died. The findings of the examination are expected to assist investigators in assessing the circumstances of the incident.

Police said further legal action would be taken after the post-mortem report became available. The investigation will be important in determining whether the death resulted from accidental drowning or another cause.

For now, the family’s explanation remains unconfirmed, and the authorities have yet to reach a definitive conclusion. The post-mortem findings and the outcome of the police investigation will help clarify the circumstances surrounding the death of the mother of two.
