Woman’s Body Found Bound Inside Sack in Jhalokati

Police have recovered the body of a 55-year-old woman, identified as Molina Roy, from a rented house in Jhalokati town after she was found bound and stuffed inside a sack. The incident came to light on the night of Friday, 17 July, and has sent shockwaves through the local community. Investigators suspect the woman was murdered, while a robbery is also believed to have taken place at the property.

According to police and local sources, Molina Roy lived with her husband, Ratan Roy, in a rented flat owned by Tapan Haldar on T&T Road in Jhalokati town. On Friday, members of the family had gone to Bhimruli in Kirtipasha Union to attend the annual Rath Yatra festival, leaving the house unattended for several hours.

When the family returned later that night, they found the main entrance open and the rooms in complete disarray. As they searched the house, they discovered Molina Roy’s body inside a sack in one of the rooms and immediately informed the police.

Officers from Jhalokati Sadar Police Station arrived at the scene shortly afterwards. They recovered the body and found that the victim’s hands and feet had been tied, while a sack had been placed over her head. The body was later sent to the Jhalokati Sadar Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Family members alleged that the attackers fled with cash and gold jewellery after killing Molina Roy. They also claimed that three other flats in the same building appeared to have been targeted during the incident. Several doors inside the building were found damaged or forced open, suggesting that the perpetrators may have entered multiple apartments in search of valuables.

The condition of the building and the reported thefts have led investigators to examine whether the killing occurred during a robbery. Local residents believe the intruders may have entered the house intending to steal money and valuables, and that Molina Roy was attacked after confronting or resisting them. Police, however, have refrained from confirming any specific motive, stating that all possible angles are being investigated until forensic findings and other evidence are fully assessed.

Crime scene investigators collected a range of physical evidence from the house to assist the inquiry. The materials gathered from the scene, along with witness statements and the post-mortem report, are expected to play a key role in determining how the crime unfolded and identifying those responsible.

Speaking about the case, Jhalokati Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle), S. M. Bayezid Ibne Akbar, said officers responded immediately after receiving the report and recovered the body from the residence. He confirmed that investigators had collected the necessary evidence from the scene and that efforts were under way to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the killing.

He added that police are working to identify and arrest everyone involved in the crime. Further legal action will be taken once the post-mortem findings and the ongoing investigation provide a clearer picture of the incident.

The brutal nature of the killing has created fear among residents of the neighbourhood. Police have assured the public that the investigation is being treated as a priority, with detectives pursuing every available lead to uncover the motive behind the murder and bring those responsible to justice.
