Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso is under mounting pressure as the club grapples with a string of disappointing results. At press conferences, Xabi remains composed, but the reality behind the scenes is far more intense. Europe’s most decorated club demands success, and the inability to deliver has reportedly caused friction between the coach and certain players. If results do not improve swiftly, Alonso could face the sack.
Los Blancos have failed to win in their last three La Liga fixtures, and just one victory in five matches across all competitions has left them trailing arch-rivals Barcelona in the league standings.
Tomorrow’s fixture against Athletic Bilbao represents a crucial test for the former midfielder. Real Madrid were defeated 2-1 away at Bilbao earlier this season, highlighting the challenge ahead. Failure to secure a win at the Bernabéu could amplify calls for Alonso’s removal.
Reports suggest that inconsistent performances have unsettled the dressing room. Following the Champions League victory over Olympiakos, speculation arose that several players were unhappy with Xabi’s coaching style. While the win temporarily calmed tensions, league setbacks have reignited doubts.
The Athletic reports that some players remain sceptical about Alonso’s methods, describing the current scenario as “extremely difficult.” Madrid’s upcoming matches are crucial, not only for positive results but also for restoring confidence in the coach’s approach. Despite starting the season with an impressive record of 10 wins in 11 La Liga games, Alonso now faces an uphill battle to regain momentum at the Spanish giants.
