Muntasir Fahim

In Trishal, Mymensingh, a young man named Muntasir Fahim (22) was killed with a sharp weapon at the Government Nazrul Academy field. His friend, Ahidul Islam (22), has been accused of the murder. The incident occurred on Thursday at around 8:45 pm.

The deceased, Muntasir Fahim, was the son of Badal Mia from Chikna Monohor village in Trishal Union. The accused, Ahidul Islam, is the son of Zahirul Islam from Darirampur village of Trishal Municipality.

Relatives of the deceased stated that Muntasir Fahim was studying at a university in Malaysia. He had returned to the country four months ago. He was scheduled to return to Malaysia on Saturday; classes were to begin on 25 December.

According to police sources, at around 8:45 pm on Thursday, Ahidul Islam appeared at the police station carrying a ‘Chinese machete’. He told the police, “Fahim ruined my life, so I killed him with the machete.” The police arrested him immediately. Acting on his information, the police went to the Government Nazrul Academy school field in Trishal. Fahim’s body was found beside the water tank on the eastern side of the field. The body was later recovered and taken to the police station.

Fahim’s father, Rezaul Islam, said, “I do not understand why he killed my son. What grievance did he have? My son was not even staying in the country. He murdered my son so cruelly.”

Officer-in-charge of Trishal police, Monsur Ahmed, said the two young men were close friends. After the murder, the accused told the police that his life had been ruined, so he killed Fahim. He provided no further explanation. The police have sent the body to Mymensingh Medical College morgue. The actual motive will be determined after questioning the detained youth. Legal action is being taken in connection with the incident.
