Youth Arrested Over Child Rape in Anwara

Police have arrested a 25-year-old man named Arman Hossain on charges of raping a child in Anwara Upazila, Chittagong. The incident occurred on Monday morning (1 June) in the Ward No. 5 area of Chatari Union within the upazila. The arrestee, Arman Hossain, is the son of Md. Harun from the Chatari area, and he is a decoration worker by profession.

Incident Background and Sequence of Events

According to police and local sources, the accused, Arman Hossain, had been living with his family in a nearby residence as a long-term neighbour of the victim’s family.

The First Information Report (FIR) filed in connection with the case indicates that the child was playing outside the house with other children at approximately 8:00 am on Monday. At around 9:00 am, the child returned home crying. When her mother enquired about the reason for her distress, the child revealed that while she was playing, their neighbour, Arman Hossain, forcibly dragged her into a nearby vacant house belonging to another individual and locked the door from the inside. The victim was then subjected to physical assault and forced rape inside the room.

The FIR further details that the child’s playmates became aware of the situation during the assault. They began knocking heavily on the door and shouting for the child. Under the pressure of their shouting, the accused eventually opened the door, allowing the victim to escape the room.

Apprehension and Legal Proceedings

Immediately following the incident, local residents and neighbours intervened and detained Arman Hossain at the scene. During subsequent questioning by the locals, the suspect confessed to raping the child. Upon receiving information regarding the incident, a team from the Anwara Police Station arrived promptly at the location, took the accused into custody, and transported him to the station.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Anwara Police Station, Md. Junayet Chowdhury, officially confirmed the veracity of the incident and the subsequent arrest. Condemning the act, the Officer-in-Charge stated that it was an extremely heinous incident.

He further confirmed that the police force took immediate action to apprehend the suspect as soon as they were notified of the crime.
